Artist Statement

Heartpine Woodworks is a family-owned, small business located in Burke, Virginia creating quality wood products made with love. We specialize in cutting boards, charcuterie boards, wood kitchen items, and small furniture. Our products are made with locally supplied native and exotic woods and some are adorned with resin or brass; all are finished with a proprietary blend of food-safe, organic beeswax and mineral oil. Each board is individually created by hand and is as unique as it is beautiful and functional.

How we started (about us):

In 2015 my wife and I were looking for a very specific piece of furniture for our recently purchased home, a corner entertainment center to be more specific. We went to many stores and couldn't find anything that fit our space; that day we went home pretty sad. The next day we were looking online for ideas and we came across a website where we found plans to DIY just about any furniture item. We looked at each other and said: "Why not?!"

The plans were so detailed and looked so easy to make that we went to a big box store, bought our first power tool (a hand-held circular saw) and the lumber we needed, and started this journey. Later, we joined a local woodworker's community, watched a lot of YouTube videos, and took a couple classes to improve our new skills. At this point we were still only building things for ourselves and for our friends and family.

By late 2019 we had become confident enough in our skills to consider hosting a booth at a craft show but before we could follow through, the pandemic shut everything down. Finally, in 2021 we were able to attend our first craft show, fell in love with the vendor community, and have been doing it ever since. In 2023, a fellow vendor recommended us to an art gallery and that's how we were invited to be part of the Artists' Undertaking Gallery in Occoquan where we proudly exhibit among other talented artists Monday through Sunday.
