We welcome a new artist to the Gallery, Dawn Pritchett!Who are you and what is your medium? Dawn Pritchett, watercolor artist. I love watercolor as it seems to me to fit the artwork I am trying to create. I love the way it moves, flows and is a little unpredictable. What is your background? I’ve always loved to draw and create artwork. I had a career as a nurse for 20yrs and when I retired from it began to work on my art more often, taking many classes in watercolor. How do you work? I often create a painting from something I have seen, or my imagination. I am drawn to nature, the curves, shapes, colors, are inspiring and I particularly like small wildlife and insects. Focusing in on a small area can be very interesting to me. Those small things you walk by, which if you pause for a moment can be very impactful. I often begin a painting with several sketches and sometimes the sketches become incorporated into the painting (just happens) depending on what I am working on. I occasionally will use watercolor on something other than paper, such as canvas or coarse wood covered with gesso to create a painting with a very different feel. Who is your favorite artist? My favorite artist is Gustav Klimt.
