It’s hard to believe that it’s October already! Leaves are turning and the air is crisp. Now might be a good time to think about starting your holiday shopping! While you are out enjoying the fall weather, stop by the Gallery and see what we have to offer.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

This month we are featuring Jim Brewster. “My creative curiosity in creating collages is split between new combinations of colors/images and the endless possibilities of geometric compositions. My collages are glued to glass so I often draw a template that I 'trace' as I assemble the collage. While the composition requires thoughtful imagination, it is often the assembly planning which replays in my pre-sleep moments.” Take a look at Jim’s unique work on his artist page, or even better, stop by the Gallery and view his work in person. Jim will be working at the Gallery on October 13.

Accolades and Events

Ellen Rosenthal will be showing her work at the Lakeridge Public Library, Tacketts Mill, 2239 Old Bridge Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192. Hand-made block prints and block print collages of botanicals and still lifes on display in October.

Victoria Barnes will have matted prints and cards available as part of the “Colors of Autumn” show at the Van Landingham Gallery, Studio 311, within the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The show runs October 1-31.

Pat Blair will be showing her work in the GRATITUDE art show, hosted by the Crossroads Arts Alliance, Haymarket Museum from September 27-November 8.

Bob Friedenberg’s Bob’s picture “Space City” will be in The Art League’s October Open Exhibit beginning October 10th.

Bob also won an honorable mention in the Tremont Art & Cultural Festival in Cleveland, OH Sept. 20th.

Janet Stoeke will be showing “This Kind of Quiet” along with three other pieces in “Daughter of the Stars,” opening October 18 at the Melissa Ichiugi gallery in Front Royal, VA. It is a part of the broader “Women Artists of the DMV” exhibition.

Victoria Barnes is also showing her work “A Stroke of Blue” as part of the “Women Artists of the DMV” exhibition. This show is at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel, MD and runs through October 23.
